Travers & Co. Insurances Limited are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. We wish to be transparent on how we process your data and ensure you understand your rights. This privacy statement explains to you what to expect when you supply your personal information to Travers Insurances. Reference hereafter to “we”, “us”, “our” or “our firm” means Travers & Co. Insurances Ltd. trading as Travers Insurances; reference to “product provider” hereafter means any of the following: insurance undertaking, managing general agent, wholesale broker, underwriting agency, insurer and product producer.
We set out hereunder explanations in Plain English so that you can become aware of all the different data processors and sub-processors who may obtain your information, and we also set out the reasons for this processing. This privacy statement is effective from 20th March 2026.
We reserve the right to change and amend this privacy statement from time to time to take into consideration new technology, changes to our operations and practices and new laws and regulations. Our most current privacy policy will govern any personal information we hold on you.

The services and intermediation activities we provide are advice and assistance in the placement and arrangement of general insurance products suitable to your needs and this statement applies to information we collect about you:
- Should you visit us in person at our office, contact us by telephone or through our website the process is similar. Our website is a brochure website which allows you to submit your Name, Email Address, Phone Numbers, Type of Cover Sought, and Brief Description about your enquiry. This information is then sent to our qualified team of advisors who will assist you with your enquiry.
- Collecting personal information about you for the purposes of engaging in intermediation activities and/or the provision of advice relating to certain general insurance products is necessary and legitimate to fulfil the duty of care that we are required to provide to you.
- You do not have to provide us with any personal information, however, should you be unable to provide us with the required personal information, we will be unable to provide you with a quote, insurance policy or process a claim that you make.
- Should you choose to select a third party to supply your information to us, in the interests of good business practice we will facilitate this on the understanding that you have given your consent to the third party to supply this information to us on your behalf.
- All personal data we gather will be processed in accordance with all applicable data protection laws and principles, including the GDPR and the Data Protection Acts 1988 – 2018 and, any other law and regulatory requirements relating to the processing of personal data and to privacy, including Directive 2002/58/EC and the European Communities (Electronic Communications Networks and Services) (Privacy and Electronic Communications) Regulations 2011 and the Consumer Protection Code.

The proposal form / statement of fact and any other forms or documents provided to you and/or requested from you contain information and specific questions that product providers ask for in respect of an insurance quote, policy, renewal or claim. We and your product providers can collect information from sources, which include but are not limited to, the following:
- You
- Information already held about you, including details from previous policies and claims
- From any other person acting on your behalf (provided permission has been given)
- From a trusted contact person (provided written consent obtained from both parties)
- From the product provider and other relevant insurance companies, industry representatives
- From an employer, third party service provider, legal representatives as appropriate
- Publicly available information including social media sites, websites, online content, vehicle history check, newspaper articles, TV, radio and other media content, court judgements
- Public registers and databases (for example motorcheck, ncts, eircode finder, google maps, flood maps, companies registration office, vision-net, solocheck, central register of beneficial ownership).

In order for us to keep your information accurate and up to date, please contact us, if any of your details change. (refer to section 1 above for our contact details)
Other People’s Information
Where necessary, in certain circumstances, we do ask for and collect information about other people in order to arrange, manage or administer an insurance contract and to assist with claims handling on your behalf. These individuals may include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Insured Persons (where different from the policyholder)
- Family Members
- Claimants, Injured Third Parties and Witnesses
- Minors as claimants or beneficiaries
- Nominated Representatives including Trusted Contact Persons
- Attorneys (under power of attorney/enduring power of attorney)
- Executors
For instance, should it be the case that you wish to insure another person such as a named driver(s) under your motor insurance policy or a spouse living with you in the home under your house insurance policy or include another interested party on any other policy type, we may need information regarding these persons.
Should you provide other people’s information to us, we expect you to inform them that you are doing so, and that you have received their permission to supply this information to us.
You should make these other persons aware of this privacy statement and inform them that the contents herein also applies to them and that they can view a copy of this on our website at www.travers.ie.
- Do you need to supply this Information to us?
We request this information from you for the purposes of engaging in intermediation activities and/or the provision of advice relating to general insurance products. We will process your personal data where it is necessary for us to take pre-contractual steps at your request and for the performance of your insurance contract. You do not have to provide us with any personal information, however, should you be unable to provide us with the required personal information, we will be unable to provide you with a quote, insurance policy or handle a claim that you make.
- Your Consent
Where the use of your personal information by us requires your consent, such consent will be provided to us in accordance with our terms of business available at www.travers.ie or any other contract we may have entered into with you or stipulated in our communication with you from time to time. Where we rely on your consent as our legal basis for processing your personal information, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us. Where written consent is required by law, we will request this from you.
- Why we need to collect Sensitive Information about you?
Some of the information we may have to collect and you may be asked to disclose is referred to as Special Category Data including Health Data. Irish Data protection law allows health data to be used in connection with your insurance policy. We may process health data where it is necessary for the purpose of providing a policy of insurance or to comply with a legal obligation to which we are subject.
We may also need to collect and process information on any unspent criminal convictions and offences including penalty point data where it is necessary and proportionate for the steps taken leading into or the performance of your insurance contract and to comply with our legal obligations.

When you place a risk on cover with us, your product provider may reinsure that risk with another company as part of their risk management strategy therefore your information may be shared with them. They will use your data to decide whether they wish to provide reinsurance cover, or deal with reinsurance claims, we do not have a direct relationship with these however you should be aware that they may need to disclose your information within their group, their agents and affiliates or third-party service providers, law enforcers and regulating bodies.
If you hold insurance against a liability that may be incurred by you against a third party, where for whatever reason you cannot be found or you become insolvent, or the court finds it just and equitable to so order, then your rights under the contract will be transferred to and vest in the third party even though they are not a party to the contract of insurance. The third party has a right to recover from the product provider the amount of any loss suffered by them. Where the third party reasonably believes that you as policyholder have incurred a liability the third party will be entitled to seek and obtain information from the product provider or from any other person who is able to provide it concerning:
- the existence of the insurance contract,
- who the product provider is,
- the terms of the contract, and
- whether the product provider has informed the insured person that the product provider intends to refuse liability under the contract.
We and product providers may outsource certain aspects of our business to the European Economic Area. Under our arrangements with these service and product providers they are responsible for ensuring that such transfers of information are carefully managed to protect your privacy.

Product providers can validate the claims information provided against claims history information recorded on Insurance Link. To perform a check against non-disclosure and ensure that claims information provided by you matches the information on the database. The operation of Insurance Link is subject to the Code of Practice for Insurers issued by the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner. |
Claims information is integral part of your insurance contract. Product providers may, in cases of non-disclosure or misrepresentation, rely on proportionate remedies which include to limit the claim amount payable, reject a claim or void the policy. It assists product providers in the detection and defence of exaggerated and fraudulent claims.

Your product provider may also in turn process personal data they receive about you from third parties including but not limited to us, business partners, other product providers, claims teams and fraud prevention agencies.
Each of the product providers and third parties with whom we share your personal data may have their own privacy notice outlining how they handle personal data. We strongly recommend that you visit their respective websites to review their privacy notices and understand how your information is processed once it is shared by us.

Product providers may also use artificial intelligence (AI) for automated decision-making in underwriting, claims processing, and fraud detection. - Direct Marketing
Where you have given your consent to receive direct marketing, we may contact you (by letter, email, post, phone or sms) about products, services and offers which may be of interest and/or of benefit to you, these will strictly be in the context of insurance. You have the choice to opt out of direct marketing by us and can withdraw your consent to marketing at any time by writing to Travers Insurances, 7 Upper Main Street, Arklow, Co. Wicklow or by e-mailing dataprotection@travers.ie. Alternatively you can click on the opt-out/unsubscribe link in marketing communications we send you.
If you have more than one email address, contact number or address, please make sure to notify us of all of these if you wish to opt out and keep us informed of any changes to your contact details. Please note that opting out from marketing communications may take a number of days to take effect. Your choice will not affect any of the other services we provide to you, now or in the future.
Profiling for marketing purposes: where you have given consent to direct marketing and we contact you about other services, we may run automated queries on our computerised database to establish the suitability of proposed products or services to your needs.
- Using our Website & Online Information
We use cookies to make our website function properly, make it more secure, provide better user experience, understand how the website performs and to analyse what works and where it needs improvement. Where possible, we have ensured not to collect your personal information. However, some performance and functional cookies required for providing quotes will use personal information which you have provided. In addition, advertising and targeting cookies may use profiling in some cases. We also use Google Business and Analytics which optimises our search engine results. - Your Rights in respect of your Personal Information
You have a number of legal rights in respect of the information stored about you, which include but are not limited to, the:
- Right of Access to obtain a copy of your information.
- Right of Rectification to correct and erase any inaccuracies in the information held.
- Right to be Forgotten to erase any information concerning you, in certain circumstances.
- Right to Restrict Processing to contest decisions based on automated decision making.
- Right to Object to how your information is used, in certain circumstances.
- Right to Data Portability to transfer your information to another providers.
- Right to Withdraw Consent to use of your information.
We may not always be able to meet a request for the above-mentioned rights to be granted as these may be overridden when processing is necessary for the performance of an in force legally binding insurance contract and/or fulfilling our legal and regulatory obligations.

- Right of Access
Every person has a right to be given a copy of his/her personal data. Under the Data Protection Acts, a Subject Access Request should be submitted in writing along with proof of your identity to our postal address for the attention of the “Head of Compliance” and we will response to all valid requests within one month. It may however take us longer if the request is particularly complicated or you have made several requests. To speed up our response, we ask that you be specific in your request about what you want to receive or are concerned about. We will not ask for a fee, unless we think your request is unfounded, repetitive or excessive. Where a fee is necessary, we will inform you before proceeding with your request.
- How Long do we Retain your Personal Information
Data will not be held for longer than is necessary for the purpose(s) for which it was obtained. This means that the period of time for which we store your personal data may depend on the type of data we hold. To determine the appropriate retention period for personal data, we consider the amount, nature and sensitivity of the personal data, the potential risk of harm from unauthorised use or disclosure of your personal data, the purposes for which we process your personal data and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means, and the applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Where you have requested an insurance quotation and/or been offered an insurance product or service but you have decided not to proceed, we shall, subject to your consent, keep your quotation data in respect of that request or offer for 12 months. - Data Security
Travers Insurances intent is to protect the security of your personal information and protect your data from loss, misuse, unauthorised access or disclosure, alteration or destruction. We have taken appropriate steps to safeguard and secure information we collect online, including the use of encryption when collecting or transferring sensitive data such as credit card information. However, you should always take into consideration that the internet is an open forum and that data may flow across networks with little or no security measures, and therefore such information may be accessed by people other than those you intended to access it.
- Complaint and Contact Us
If you are concerned about us protecting your privacy, you can make a complaint. We will act upon it promptly as per our privacy policy. You can contact us as set out in Section 1 ‘General’ above. If you are not satisfied with our response to your complaint, you have the right to file a complaint with the Data Protection Commissioner’s Office (“DPC”).
